That said, most of my work has been young adult fiction, which is a good fit for my voice. I had no audio experience, but significant acting experience, and I've been working steadily basically from the beginning. I've booked (and been paid for) a bunch of quite well-paying books (200-300 PFH). I'm really not sure what's going wrong on your end, because with that background you should be landing gigs. Since ACX refuses to provide analytics for how often and by whom auditions or samples are listened to, I'm left to wonder whether any of this work is being heard at all.ĭefinitely a thing. I think my background would indicate that, whatever else may be wrong with my auditions, there is certainly nothing blatantly unprofessional about them. Given that I've committed well over 100 hours of work auditioning so far without one legitimate offer makes me wonder if ACX is really anything more than a hobby. But I thought I would first check in with you all and ask whether this is anyone else's experience. I realize that I may not be ultimately suited for this work, and I'm willing to accept that. This is very different than the experience I hear many talk about on this forum. In that entire time I have not received even one legitimate offer. Here's the problem: I have been auditioning steadily during my time on ACX - 6 to 10 titles per week (I have 7 in the cue at this moment). I have only been registered on ACX for about 6 months, but I have a complete profile and numerous audiobook samples posted. I have been working steadily for a couple of independent publishing houses narrating audiobooks. I am also an actor with stage, feature film, and network television acting credits. I have a private studio that has some of the best acoustics I have ever had the pleasure of recording in, and my equipment has all been chosen from a carefully researched set of the most respected makes/models in the VO world. Before I get to my question it would be helpful to know something about me: I have been an spoken-word audio producer and voice-over talent for over 30 years.
